Akkha Minority, Kentung, Burma (Myanmar)

When I think about Burma (Myanmar) one thing I really regret is that I missed this new possibility to easily visit the minority people outside of the regular tourist spots.  It was still the military rules the last time I visited Burma, and because of the various restrictions existing at the time, I was not able to stay much in the various hill tribe and minority villages I visited around the city of Kentung in the north. I hope to be able to return there soon.

This Akkha woman wears the traditional headdress of her village.  She’s trying to sell traditional clothes to the few visitors passing by her village. The world has changed.  The exchanges with the modern world are far more common.  Still these people remain quite isolated and try their best to maintain their traditional way of life.
