Nice Carnival 2013

It’s this time of the year again — as the sun and the beautiful days are slowly coming back, the Nice Carnival and its parades and “flower battles” are taking place for three weeks. The events attract a lot of people from around the world. These two types of event are quite different.

The Parades (Corso Carnavalesque and its brother the nightly illuminated one) are more popular as a large number of people and almost all the kids are actually costumed. The crowd is with the parade.  The papier-maché made figures are among the people around.

The Flower Battles are more elegant, with a clear separation between the ones who parade and the ones watching them.  I enjoyed taking pictures among the numerous floats decorated with the most stunning floral compositions, parading the Promenade des Anglais, with extravagantly dressed characters throwing out flowers, mimosas, gerberas, and lilies into the public … Everyone is enjoying himself. There is fun and joy everywhere.
