Samurai at the Jidai Matsuri, Kyoto

During the Muromachi Period (1338-1573), the Hosokawa-shi, assistant of the Shogun, was responsible for all government affairs.

One of the particularity of this period is the light battle armor and other costumes of the samurai warrior class.  The Ashikaga shogunate included mounted magistrates and styles worn by court nobles, doctors and other in higher professions.

The costumes displayed by the participants of the Jidai Matsuri are really beautiful and exact reproduction of the original ones. Some of these weight as much as 35 kg!
