Shinto has been called “the religion of Japan” and the New Year’s period in Japan is one of the most important annual festivals. It has been celebrated for centuries and is the perfect opportunity to discover unique Japanese customs.
On December 31st in the early afternoon, we were walking around the Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto, and got the opportunity to assist to a Shinto Ceremony where the city notables were purified by Shinto priests in preparation of the new year.
