Karnak Temples, Luxor, Egypt

This post is also available in: French

Detail of a pillar at the Karnak Temple Complex located near Luxor, some 500 km south of Cairo, in Egypt.

The area around Karnak was the ancient Egyptian Ipet-isut (“The Most Selected of Places”) and the main place of worship of the eighteenth dynasty Theban Triad with the god Amun as its head. It is part of the monumental city of Thebes.

Some of these Egyptian temples and sculptures are around 5,000 year old !  The emotion is always strong walking around such places. At the same time, I was quite surprised by the lack of care of some of the numerous tourists around.
