Chado, the Way of Tea, Kyoto, Japan

This post is also available in: French

The Japanese tea ceremony, also called the Way of Tea, is a Japanese cultural activity involving the ceremonial preparation and presentation of matcha, powdered green tea. In Japanese, it is called chanoyu (茶の湯) or chadō (茶道).

The manner in which it is performed, or the art of its performance, is called otemae (お手前).   This traditional ritual has greatly been influenced by Zen Buddhism.

Thanks to Ms. Akiko Y., my wife Akiko cooking teacher, we were invited to attend a complete tea ceremony with Master Kimura Soshin. Really a special experience. Many thanks for the kindness.
